Stonewall offering Valentine’s package

For the perfect Valentine's weekend get-away complete with gourmet dinner, soothing live jazz, cozy overnight accommodations, ballroom dancing and a fountain of chocolate, visit Stonewall Resort on Feb. 11-13.

Steve Ludwig, director of sales and marketing for the Four Diamond Stonewall Resort, said, "Let Stonewall take care of the details while you spend quality time with your sweetheart this Valentine's holiday. For something totally different, we'll provide guests with ballroom dance instruction, to be followed by a dance where they can try out their new skills."

With the popularity of shows like "Dancing With the Stars," interest in learning the art of ballroom dance is at an all-time high.

West Virginia dance professional Craig Giffin will provide an instructional class from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 11-12 and then guests can take to the dance floor beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Ludwig said the resort is offering a special package rate of $269 per couple (plus tax and resort fee) that includes overnight lodging on either Feb. 11 or Feb. 12, dinner for two in Stillwaters Restaurant (to include Champagne or house wine during dinner), ballroom dance instruction and evening dance, evening chocolate fountain and coffee reception, and breakfast for two the next morning.

Guests participating in the Valentine's special can also receive an extra night lodging for $89, to be used Feb. 10, Feb. 13 or Feb. 14.

During their stay, guests can enjoy sitting by a roaring fire in the lodge's great room, playing cards in the cozy library, or taking in a relaxing and rejuvenating spa visit. Several "chocolate-influenced" spa therapies have been specially designed for this weekend.

Guests can also get outdoors and enjoy the hiking trails and paths throughout the resort and Stonewall Jackson State Park property.

For those choosing to stay the night of Feb. 11, the menu will include: hearts of romaine Caesar salad with cherry tomatoes and herbed croutons and fresh field greens with Balsamic marinated strawberries; Brie cheese and fried sage leaves; shrimp cocktail with classic cocktail sauce and sun-dried tomato remoulade; chilled scungili and pepper salad with a cold pressed extra virgin olive oil and aged Sherry vinegar; roasted garden vegetables; potato and leek gratin; chicken breast in creamy veloute with prosciutto and sage; hot smoked salmon with a sesame soy and molasses glaze; pecan crusted crab cakes with maple butter; roasted pork loin with gorgonzola and caramelized shallots; and, hand carved five-peppercorn crusted prime rib with accompaniments.

Guests staying the night of Feb. 12 will enjoy a meal of: baby romaine salad with segments of citrus and asiago cheese; shrimp cocktail with classic cocktail sauce and Cajun remoulade; cured meats display with artesian cheese; lobster bisque infused with sherry; sauted vegetable medley; wild rice; whipped Yukon chive potatoes; carved roasted strip loin with cherry molasses demi; scallops and shrimp with cognac butter; snow peas and orange zest; pan seared snapper with olives and red pepper coulis; Appalachian spiced chicken; and, herb crusted leg of lamb with rosemary-thyme and Pinot Noir reduction.

A Valentine's dessert display with fresh fruits and chocolates will be offered both evenings.

In addition, there will be a chocolate fountain and coffee reception taking place in the lobby from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. each day.
