Strawberry Festival gearing up for its 70th year

February 26, 2011
The Inter-Mountain

The West Virginia Strawberry Festival will be celebrating its 70th year May 18-22. The teen and queen pageant has been one of the premier pageants in West Virginia for many decades.

The teens and queens have gone on to become Miss West Virginia, Teen USA, Miss West Virginia USA and Miss West Virginia Association of Fairs and Festivals many times.

Although the West Virginia Strawberry Festival Teen and Queen Pageant is no longer a preliminary to the Miss West Virginia Teen USA or Miss West Virginia USA pageant, the West Virginia Strawberry Festival Association board of directors will pay for the 2011 WVSF teen to compete in Miss West Virginia USA 2012 if they so choose to enter.

The West Virginia Strawberry Festival Association board of directors will also appoint an age-appropriate representative to the Miss West Virginia Association of Fairs and Festivals 2012 pageant.

To apply for the teen pageant, teens must between 14 and 18 as of Feb. 1, 2012 (cannot have reached 19th birthday before Feb. 1, 2012). To apply for the queen pageant, young women must be between ages of 18 and 25 as of Feb. 1, 2012 (cannot have reached 26th birthday before Feb. 1, 2012.

Forms are available at www.wvstrawberryfestival.com.

All forms, two personal photos and entry fees must be postmarked by March 31 and sent to Joyce Greene c/o WVSF Teen and Queen Pageant, 102 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon, West Virginia 26201.

The West Virginia Strawberry Festival will also host Junior Royalty Pageant, which is scheduled for March 19 at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the pageant begins at 1 p.m.

The pageant is open to all boys and girls ages 4 to 13.

The cost of registration is $70 and tickets for the pageant are $4 for children and $6 for adults.

The deadline for entry into the Junior Royalty Pageant is Monday.
