Feb. 27 marked the official opening of the Petersburg Foodland on Virginia Avenue in Petersburg. The Grant County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Speaking on behalf of the chamber was President Tammy Kesner, who told those in attendance, ‘Businesses such as Foodland are a vital part of our community, and Foodland realizes the value of the community itself as they participate in community events enhancing the quality of life for all citizens in the area.’ In addition to Kesner speaking, West Virginia State Treasurer John Perdue and owner Craig Phillips spoke to those gathered at the ceremony. In attendance were Ed Fischer, George Ford, Icky Hyre, Doug Swick, Kesner, Mayor Gary Michael, who cut the ribbon, Linda Phillips, Perdue, Phillips, Jim Cole, Jack Barr, Jim Wilson, Beverly and Allen Evans and Jerry Sites. ‘I hope the store satisfies and meets all the needs of the community,’ Phillips added. Foodland is continuing the grand-opening celebration with sales throughout the store and giveaways.
