The Buckhannon City Council put the final touches on the proposed budget for 2011-2012 on Saturday, one it expects to approve at its regularly scheduled meeting later this week.

During the meeting, questions were raised about the condition of the roof on the public safety complex. The building stores several pieces of expensive equipment for both the fire and police departments, and Mayor Kenneth Davidson said repairs should be made soon. Those repairs have been estimated at $100,000. The current budget has $187,323 for contingencies, Davidson said.

"I suggest that we use part of that money to replace the roof," he said. "We will have to wait to approve that during the regular council meeting because it is not on (Saturday's) agenda."

The $4,609,517 balanced budget must be submitted to the state by March 28, Davidson said.

The tentative appropriations included in the budget are as follows: Economic Development, $15,000; Mayor's Department, $288,331; Council $25,971; Recorder, $3,480; Treasurer, $37,000; Police Judge, $11,120: City Attorney, $6,835: Zoning, $9,400: data processing, $25,000: City Hall, $235,246: Police Department, $910,725: Fire Department, $660,331; Street Department, $1,188,456; street lights, $52,000; traffic signals, $17,500; snow removal, $30,000; Airport, $15,000; public transportation, $10,000; Health Department, $5,000; parks, $63,600; Stockert Youth Center, $273,940; historic landmarks, $1,000; Public Safety Complex police department, $398,400; and Elections, $ 15,600.

The council will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday in regular session to consider approving the budget.
