The Buckhannnon-Upshur baseball team will field a young squad this spring.

The Bucs, who finished 8-14 last year, return only three seniors.

They include third basemen Evan Wright, second basemen Kane Bender and outfielder Corbin Pugh.

"We need these guys to step up and help lead this team," said B-U coach Adam Squires. "We're going to need good hitting performances from them and their defense."

Junior outfielders Daniel Powell, Garrett Riley and Kody Seech, along with sophomore Jeremy Davidson and Dalton Westfall return with little experience for the Bucs.

"These guys saw little time last year," said Squires. "They'll have bigger roles this year for us."

Newcomers Nathan Matthews and Brantley Hamrick will look to contribute at the varsity level.

"Nathan and Brantley have had good practices so far," said Squires. "They will see time on the field somewhere.

"Practices have been going well so far," said Squires. "We have a lot of younger guys this year that will get to see time."

B-U is scheduled to host Webster County today at 7 p.m. if the weather permits.
