On Election Day 2010, Tygarts Valley Presbyterian Church hosted a youth day. Church officials say there was a great turnout for the event and that youth had a "great time" and couldn't wait for the next one.
Well, the next one is here and all middle school and high school youth are invited to come and participate today.
The Rev. Kevin Starcher, associate pastor at Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elkins, will be the guest speaker. "Starcher is a firm believer that God calls us to live into God's adventurous challenge by living faithfully and seeking God's Kingdom in all we do," a spokesperson said.
Starcher will be leading the youth in a discussion of why the church needs the youth of today. "So much of our time is spent trying to convince the youth need the church - but in reality the church needs the youth with their energy and fresh ways of looking at God and God's work," the spokesperson said. "All youth are encouraged to come and be a part of the discussion to see how they fit into God's plan for their future and the future of Christ's church."
The event will begin at 11 a.m. with registration and snacks. After some fellowship time, there will be a time of worship and discussion with Starcher. Lunch will be served and there will be a game of "Minute to Win It!" The youth will work on a service project for the church's Good Friday service and will conclude with another opportunity to worship and talk with him about the church.
At the end of the day, around 4 p.m., there will be pizza and fellowship. There is no charge for this event.
Tygarts Valley Presbyterian Church is located in Huttonsville. Traveling south from Elkins on U.S. 219, the church is located on the right-hand side of the road in Huttonsville "up on the hill." Look for the lighthouse along the road and turn into the driveway.
