ARTSPRING in Tucker County slated this weekend

This weekend the Tucker County Convention and Visitors Bureau along with the Tucker County Commission are bringing ARTSPRING to Tucker County.

ARTSPRING is a Memorial Weekend art tour of Tucker County. Artists of every kind can be found at different locations throughout the county including artist demonstrations, live musical performances and more. Locations participating in ARTSPRING include Ben's Old Loom Barn in Canaan Valley, WVHighlands Artisans Gallery and The Studio Gallery in Davis, MountainMade Gallery and The White Room in Thomas and the Heritage House in Parsons.

Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the WVHighlands Gallery will be featuring hands-on paper making. Paper artists Jill Jarom and Bruce Wilson will be on sight. Guests will be able to join Jarom and Wilson in creating hand made paper from a variety of natural items. Artist Titi Ferguson will be on sight painting a water color and John Ferguson will be doing a stained glass demonstration.

Also Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Davis, The Studio Gallery will be featuring local artisan Lori Halderman.

The MountainMade Gallery in Thomas will be featuring a variety of activities throughout the weekend. Saturday from 10 a.m to 4 p.m., there will be a stained glass demonstration, food tasting. and a pottery demonstration. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., a polymer clay and cold wax candles children's activity will be occurring.

Sunday starting at 4 p.m., more events begin.

In Thomas from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Paul Luchessi Studio's doors will be open to the public. Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Mud Ceramics Studio will be featuring ceramic artist Ben Nelson. Nelson will be giving ceramic demonstrations on the wheel.

The Purple Fiddle in Thomas from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday will feature a free show with Brittany and Heather Hannah and friends.

1Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m, The White Room Art gallery is hosting the annual Memorial Day weekend celebration. Excessively fancy dress is encouraged and refreshments will be provided. A solo exhibition by Metal Sculptor Nathan Baker runs all weekend.

The Parsons Heritage House in Parsons will be featuring Linda Sinish and jewelry making from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Ben's Old Loom Barn in Canaan Valley will be featuring a "Kid's Corner" 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, where kids can explore the world of weaving with looms and off loom devices. Members of the Canaan Weavers and the Mountain Weavers Guild will be doing demonstrations offered on the hour.

"ARTSPRING is positioned to highlight the depth and uniqueness of the arts community that is here in Tucker County", said Seth Pitt, White Room owner and event coordinator. "A lot of folks are not aware of the talent that can be found here. There are a lot of very talented and creative people that call this county their home"

A silent auction will occur at noon Sunday at the Cottrill Opera House in Thomas. Proceeds will go towards supporting the STArt Project, a Tucker County non-profit organization that supports art in the schools and recognizes student achievement.
