Relay for Life event slated for Saturday

Saturday, Randolph County will put "Lights! Camera! Cure!" in the spotlight when the annual Relay for Life begins at noon at the Elkins High School track.

Relay for Life co-chair Kristi Kirkpatrick says she's hoping the event enables the county to meet or exceed its goal of $112,000 for the American Cancer Society.

"It's to celebrate, remember and fight back," Kirkpatrick says of the Relay.

There will be entertainment throughout the day, and concessions and other items will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go toward the $112,000 goal.

The Survivor's Reception begins at 11 a.m., and will be followed by the opening ceremony at noon. The full schedule of events is as follows:

12:30 p.m.: Survivor's Lap, Caregiver's Lap and Team Lap;

1 p.m.: Entertainment by Deanna Armentrout;

1:30 p.m.: Empty table ceremony;

2:30 p.m.: Relay for Life Pageant winners recognition;

3-5 p.m.: Tent judging;

3 p.m.: entertainment;

4:30 p.m.: Caleb Karriker;

5:30 p.m.: Corporate sponsorship recognition;

6 p.m.: Touch of Glory;

6:30 p.m.: "Box" Car Derby;

7 p.m.: Amazed By Grace;

8:30 p.m.: Micky Messer & Friends;

9:30 p.m.: Luminary Ceremony;

10 p.m.: Lola's List;

11 p.m.: Wedding Dance Music Party;

11:50 p.m.: Final lap;

Midnight: Closing Ceremony, which includes recognition of winning tent site and announcement of current fundraising total.

Prayer Circles will take place at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 7 p.m., 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. near the Mt. Caramel Baptist Church tent.

Kirkpatrick says the Luminaria Ceremony is a somber event, which recognizes and honors those who are survivors and those who have lost the battle against cancer.
