The owner of a Bartow trucking company has died from injuries he suffered during a logging accident Wednesday afternoon while working in the lower Cheat area of Randolph County.

At approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, along the Mt. Zion Road, Will James Pennington, 22, was helping skid logs, when one hit him on the head and landed upon him. Pennington was taken by helicopter to Morgantown, where he died at around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Randolph County Sheriff Jack Roy says the incident is under investigation, but authorities think that it was an accident. Deputy M.P. Dyer is conducting the investigation.

Pennington was the owner of J&L Trucking in Bartow.

The Elkins Fire Department and Randolph County EMS also responded to the scene.
