William Robert Burnside, 80, of Route 9, Buckhannon, died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at his home.
He was born May 1, 1931, in Harrison County, a son of the late Brenna Orestes and Lola Pearl Cross Burnside.
He was united in marriage on Oct. 18, 1953, to Mary Lee Auskings, who preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 1998.
He is survived by four sons: Dirk and wife, Helen, Burnside of Buckhannon, Eric and wife, Bebe, Burnside of Buckhannon, Karl and wife, Kimberly, Burnside of Buckhannon and Mica Burnside and Sue Smithson of Good Hope. Also surviving are two daughters: Marguin and husband, Robert, Godfrey of French Creek and Crystal and husband, Terry, Shaw of Buckhannon; 14 grandchildren; one step granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Veda May Burnside Boyd and husband, Robert, of Universal City, Texas. He was preceded in death by one brother, Aubrey Burnside, and one sister, Mary Christine Heater.
Mr. Burnside was a proud life member of the NRA. He was a 1949 graduate of Buckhannon High School.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. The family will honor his wishes to be cremated. Private family services will be held at a later date.
