Tygarts Valley Presbyterian Church in Huttonsville is offering a summer program for families and individuals. Each Thursday, beginning next week, families will gather at the church at 6:30 p.m. for a simple meal.
The program will give families an opportunity to stop the rush of their daily lives and spend some time together as a family over a meal.
It also provides an opportunity for those who live alone to share a meal with others.
"In today's society, it is so difficult to just stop and engage in something as simple as sharing some food together. The congregation of Tygarts Valley hopes this meal time will offer something to families and individuals they do not normally have the time or opportunity to do," a spokesperson said.
After the meal will be a time of gathering and those in attendance will then go to a variety of classes offered for children, youth and adults.
All classes will offer biblical stories to teach how to live in today's world as a person of faith.
"Using the Lighthouse as an overarching theme, all age groups will explore the idea of Jesus being the light of our life and how we can be Christ's light to the world," the spokesperson said. "Young children as well as elementary age children will be using curriculum with the lighthouse theme to show children how Jesus is our guiding light.
Middle school and high school youth will have discussion on what it means to follow Jesus and be a light to those around them. Adults will study various individuals in scripture to learn how they have guided us in living as God's people. The evening will end with a brief worship experience. There is no charge for this program; however, an offering will be taken up each evening to benefit Heifer International.
Everyone is welcome to come, regardless of current church affiliation or even if you are not currently involved with church but want to explore your faith.
