Pfc. Devin Dale Delauder, a Belington native, was recently awarded the Purple Heart Medal for combat injuries he suffered in May in Afghanistan.
Delauder is a 2008 graduate of Philip Barbour High School and he attended Fairmont State College for two years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. He graduated from basic training in July 2010 and was stationed in Hawaii prior to being deployed to Afghanistan.
He is the son of James D. and Kimberly J. (Helmick) Delauder of Belington. He is the grandson of Judy Helmick of Nevada and the late Gay Ward Helmick of Elkins. Paternal grandparents are the late Thomas James Delauder and Patricia Ann Delauder of Philippi.
He has returned to active duty with his unit in Afghanistan.
