Back for the eighth year, the annual Pickin' in Parsons, presented by John and Joyce Bowers, is bringing with it some of the most notable bluegrass bands in the country.
On Aug. 4 through Aug. 6, Five River Camp Ground in Parsons will be transformed into a music-lover's dream as 15 bands will offer a variety of bluegrass and country music.
Some of the talent includes Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Ronnie Reno & Reno Tradition, Junior Sisk, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out and local band Know One You Know. In addition to bluegrass and jamming around campfires, a variety of craft and food vendors will also be on hand to keep patrons satisfied throughout the event.
To help Pickin' in Parsons celebrate, there are many free community activities during the week including the Parsons Street Fair on Saturday. This includes a citywide yard sale before 11 a.m. when the street fair kicks off.
Pickin' in Parsons will be participating by setting up a booth to sell merchandise and providing live entertainment from 6 to 8p.m. at the corner of Walnut and Second streets. A duck race in the Shavers Fork River at Five River Camp Ground will be at 2 p.m. on Monday. Tuesday evening is the annual retail auction at 6 p.m. with your auctioneer John Bowers. The Pot Luck Pickin' Party, also known as a covered dish dinner, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Tickets are available for all three days and per day. Non-service camping and specials are also available. Children younger than 12 are admitted free with a paying adult.
Five River Camp Ground offers camping with dump station, showers and restrooms. Pickin' In Parsons Bluegrass Festival is a family event at an alcohol- and drug-free facility. For detailed information, visit www.fiverivercampground.com or call John or Joyce Bowers at 304-478-3515.
