Music lovers of all ages are in for a real treat. Just as the heat of summer reaches its peak, some folks are already getting into the spirit of Christmas. Local organizers are preparing for a series of December concerts featuring G.F. Handel's oratorio, "Messiah."
Tucker County has a rich diversity of musical heritage including a love of the classics. This is an additional opportunity for singers, musicians and audience members alike to share the experience of great classical musical, especially during the Christmas season. (Mary A. Mullenax)
The choral group will be directed by Tucker County native Brian K. Flanagan, retired music educator of Davis. Guest musicians have been invited to perform the organ and harpsichord accompaniment.
A special invitation is extended to welcome all area singers to attend an orientation on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in the activity room of the Community Bible Church in Davis. Singers are welcome to bring their own copy of the Watkins Shaw score, while arrangements are being made to obtain additional copies as needed.
"Whether this is your first time, or you have sung the 'Messiah' oratorio many years before, you are sure to enjoy coming together in harmony to present this wonderful work of art," a spokesperson said.
