Lewis County 2,

Grafton 0

SOUTH WESTON - Lewis County played dominant volleyball in games one and three in Monday night's match with Big 10 Conference foe Grafton, grinding out a hard earned win.

The match was only a best-of-three as the evening was part of a tri-match that also included East Fairmont.

Coach Tammie Gandee's Minutemaids won Game 1 25-12, but faltered and suffered a hard-fought 24-26 deficit in Game 2. However, Lewis County rebounded for a strong Game 3 to close the match, 25-12.

"We played very well in the two games we won. The serves were there and we were communicating," Gandee said. "That second game got away from us because we simply got sloppy with our passing."

Audra Jerden led the Minutemaids with nine aces, 10 assists and 11 service points. Hannah Simmons followed with 12 points, eight aces, and seven assists. Emily Osborne added five kills and Breanna Brown five service points in the win. Allie White and Kelsea Arnold added six assists and five assists, respectively.

East Fairmont defeated Lewis County in two games in the Minutemaids' second contest on Monday night.

Playing well in spurts, the Lady Bees made the necessary plays when they had to, downing the Minutemaids 25-18, 25-22.

"We had some good runs on them and had leads in both games, but we are just not sustaining that level of play right now," Gandee said. "Again it came back to our passing and committing unforced errors. Once we can clean that up, we will be able to perform like we are capable of. We have some talented girls, we just need to put it all together."

In Game 1, Lewis County led early, but fell victim to a Lady Bees spurt. Down only 11-13, the Minutemaids possessed serve, but a 10-2 East Fairmont run raised their advantage to 23-13 and the game was closed just plays later.

In Game 2, Lewis County held leads at 11-7 and 15-13. But with the team's deadlocked at 22-22, the Lady Bees rattled off the match's final three points to end the night.

Caitlin Fluharty led the East Fairmont attack, drilling home 11 kills, most of which came off sets from her twin sister Cali Fluharty, who registered 22 assists in the match.

Arlene Anderson added six kills and Tori Postelwaite four as the Lady Bees raise their mark to 4-2. They defeated Grafton in straight games in the evening's middle match.

Audra Jerden again led the Minutemaids in the nightcap, recording six assists, three kills and four service points. Hannah Simmons served three aces and seven points, with Breanna Brown adding two kills.

Lewis County (3-7-1) will return to action tonight at Bridgeport.
