Twenty-five supporters of the Philippi Public Library walked and ran the 2K and 5K race course through the streets of Davis on Sept. 24 when they joined hundreds of others participating in Run For It, the annual race sponsored by the Tucker Community Foundation (TCF) as part of the Leaf Peepers Festival.
The local library supporters donned colorful top hats and bow ties for their moment in the participant circle prior to the race where they chanted "Hats off to Philippi Public Library!" All participating teams showed their enthusiasm for the event as one means of winning one of the event's many awards.
Philippi's library won $1,100 in Race Day Awards including being named one of the top teams in the race as determined by the number of team participants, team enthusiasm and sponsor money raised. Other race day funds given to the local library came from entry fees and sponsor money. The foundation returns one half of all registration fees and 100 percent of all sponsor money turned in to the foundation.

The TCF has notified Philippi Public Library that it will receive a total of $3,622 from its participation in Run For It. Because of the success of the event as a fundraiser for the library, many participants in this year's race promised to return next year with more walkers and runners for the library team.
"The library is thrilled to have been so successful in this year's Run For It. Next year we hope to recruit lots more runners and walkers including runners who can place in the top three finishers in the 5K competitive race," said Caroline Jett, president of the library's board of directors.
