Two Barbour County teams demonstrated a strong show of support for their community libraries in the Tucker Community Foundation's recent Run For It event, a benefit race that raises support and awareness for local causes.
Belington Book-aneer team members, led by team captain Tammy Smith, have raised more than $26,807 during the three years the library has participated in the annual program. This year, 18 team members raised $5,700 in sponsor donations and won race day awards totaling $5,100.
Smith was awarded the $100 5K Luck of the Draw award, Tyler Baldwin won the $500 Fastest 5K Youth award, Dan Aerni won the $500 Fastest 5K Masters award for the second year in a row. The team also was awarded $1,000 for Best Effort to raise awareness and support, recruit team members and demonstrate team spirit; $1,000 for being the Top Fundraising Team from Barbour County; and $2,000 for its third place win in the Top Fundraising Team Overall category.

Philippi Public Library, led by team captain Judy Buckner Larry, entered the program in 2010 and came back strong for the 2011 race. Last year, its race proceeds totaled $282. This year, its proceeds totaled $3,622 for operational support of the library. Twenty-five team members "raised their hats" to win $1,000 in the Best Effort category. Team member Sam Kelley won the $100 2K Luck of the Draw award.
This year's Run For It generated more than $90,000 for the 24 teams and other causes represented on race day. The annual program kicks off April 1 and culminates with a 2K/5K walk and run hosted the last weekend in September during Leaf Peepers Festival in Davis. Race proceeds benefit nonprofits and charitable causes in the region served by Tucker Community Foundation.
