A hunter education class will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Junior Veterans of Foreign Wars Community Building. The class is mandatory for anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1975, prior to purchasing a hunting license for West Virginia.
The Hunter Education course is a minimum of 10 hours of instruction with hands-on gun exercises with inoperable firearms and dummy ammo, and a final exam. Those successfully completing the course will be issued a Certificate of Completion card which can be shown when purchasing a license. Students must have reached their 10th birthday by final exam day to be eligible for a permanent card. Students ages 8 and 9 may qualify for a temporary card. No one younger than 8 may take the course.
