Thanks for coming out to honor our veterans

Editor:

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone in the Elkins/Randolph County area who helped us honor our veterans this past Veterans Day during our ceremony at the All Veterans Monument. Although the weather was quite chilly, that did not deter the hardy citizens of Randolph County from honoring our veterans. Thank you one and all. It was gratifying to see how much our citizens appreciate the sacrifices our veterans make while serving us around the world.

Thank you to all the veterans organizations and their auxiliaries that participated. Thanks to Tomblyn Funeral Home for providing the canopy (it was really needed this time). Thanks to the Elkins Downtown ON TRAC Promotion Committee for the drinks and food (especially the meatballs - yummy). Thanks to Paul Gouer and Mary's Greenhouse for the year-round landscaping of the monument. Thanks to The Inter-Mountain for all your help in getting the word out about our ceremonies, both before and after. We also thank Pastor Terry Cannon for the prayers, Mayor Duke Talbott for welcoming everyone and Roy Teets for playing taps.

Thanks to John Vallelonga for his words reminding us of the sacrifices our veterans make to maintain our freedom and for reminiscing to remind us how the monument to honor our veterans became a reality. Thank you to U.S. Sen. Rockefeller for sending his greetings to our veterans and thanks to the Davis & Elkins College Student Veterans Association that participated in our ceremony.

As always, we thank our family members who helped us. Your assistance is invaluable to us in honoring our veterans at the monument. Thanks also to Jarod Howell, who pitched in after the ceremony. Also, thanks to the gentleman (sorry we don't have your name) who volunteered just prior to the ceremony to help us brush the snow and water off the chairs and dry them so folks would have a dry seat. This is a prime example of how this great country works, Americans helping one another. Thank you very much, sir, for your fine example and your help.

Finally, we thank the Highland Adventist School chorus and string orchestra for your participation. The national anthem and the military medley were appreciated by all. May God continue to bless our community, may God bless our veterans and their families, and may God bless America.
