Open house, dinner coming to Adaland

November 29, 2011
The Inter-Mountain

Whether people want to kick off the Christmas season by leisurely strolling through the lavishly decorated rooms of Adaland Mansion or by enjoying a luscious buffet dinner, Philippi's restored historical mansion, 4 miles north of downtown Philippi, is the perfect place to be Saturday and Sunday, said Executive Director Sharon Harsh.

The official opening of the Christmas season at Adaland Mansion is the Christmas Open House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Guests to the free event will be transported into a magical land of a primarily Victorian style Christmas. Twinkling lights, velvet ribbons and bows, glimmering bulbs and special themed Christmas trees in each room and on the side-yard pavilion will invite guests to return to a quieter and less hectic time. Refreshments will be on sale during the Open House, a part of the Philippi Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemoration. The Gift Shop also will be open for selecting special Christmas gifts for every person.

In addition to the Open House, guests also can enjoy a sumptuous holiday buffet dinner on Sunday and Dec. 18, with seatings from noon until 4 p.m. The Sunday buffet dinners will feature two entrees, four to six sides, salads, homemade bread and rolls, Adaland's famous dessert selections and drinks.
