Voters urged to learn about candidates

January 11, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

The candidate filing period opened throughout West Virginia on Monday, and locally several hopefuls signed up to have their names on the ballot.

For many voters, this is an interesting time of year as they begin to learn who shows an interest in becoming their future leaders. It's also a very important time to follow candidates, and hear their platforms and suggestions for taking our counties, districts and state in a productive direction.

For a solid political race, we need individuals who represent different backgrounds, viewpoints and levels of experience. Not all candidates come out to file on the first day or even the first week. In fact, there may be some still exploring the option. We encourage those who believe they have something to contribute to their area's future to step forward.

In the coming weeks, The Inter-Mountain will provide updates of candidate filings and profiles of those seeking office. We ask that voters stay abreast of the issues these hopefuls discuss in order to make the best, informed decision come Election Day. Remember, our futures depend on it.
