United Way within $10K of goal

January 11, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Numerous business and individuals have stepped up and given generously to support the 2011-12 United Way campaign for Lewis, Gilmer, Upshur counties, which is only shy $10,000 of reaching its yearly goal.

Currently, 84 percent of the $62,500 goal has been raised. Those funds will help support many of the wonderful programs in local communities.

"Welcoming in a new year represents new and hopeful beginnings, but there are many people who are struggling to make ends meet," Executive Director Beckie Sias said in a news release. "We know that when families are in financial crisis, it can affect every aspect of their lives and our community. Meeting our goal is not just a part of the job of raising funds, but a necessity for our community to thrive."

The United Way agency will again conduct its annual Elimination Dinner at Stonewall Resort on Feb. 17. Tickets will go on sale in the middle of January.

This is one of its biggest fundraisers, Sias said, and all donations stay in the tri-county communities.

Donations may be sent to United Way of Gilmer, Lewis & Upshur, P.O. Box 44, Weston, WV 26452.

Anyone with questions can call 304-269-5480 or email lcunitedway@citynet.net.
