Donnie Tenney was again elected to serve as the president of the Upshur County Commission during last week's annual organizational meeting.

As part of that meeting, the commission announced that the courthouse will be closed on April 6, in addition to the regularly observed state holidays.

The courthouse will also close at noon on May 18 and Dec. 21.

The commissioners also announced that a $5,000 Governor's Community Partnership Grant will enable the Kesling Mill Lions Club to develop a playground next to the community center. The project includes the clearing and leveling of the area, along with the construction of a retaining wall on Kesling Mill Road.

Commission members also passed a resolution declaring Jan. 19 as West Virginia Phsyical Activity Day. The resolution asks that all aspects of the community, including education, health care, business, recreation and others, join together to promote physical activity as a means to a healthy lifestyle.

It was also announced to the commissioners that the Adrian Public Service District's Phase VI water extension project was turned down for funding by the Small Cities Block Grant program in the West Virginia Development Office.
