PHILIPPI - Philip Barbour came out on top in a tight defensive tussle Wednesday night, outlasting visiting Buckhannon-Upshur 53-45. Andy Green and Zach Summerfield each scored 13 points to lead the Colts.
"It was a good overall team effort for us," Philip Barbour head coach Marcus Johnson said. "We focused on stopping Westfall and our work defensively helped get our offense off and running. In the second half, we did a really nice job of securing the defensive rebounds and getting out on the break."
Philip Barbour led 19-17 at the half, and extended that lead to 39-34 after a fast paced third quarter. They held on down the stretch as Buckhannon-Upshur could not convert on its opportunites.

Philip Barbour’s Quentin Mouser goes in for a score as Buckhannon-Upshur’s Dalton Westfall defends Wednesday night in Big 10 Conference action in Philippi. The Colts won the contest 53-45.
"We only shot 39 percent from the field, and we added to that by only hitting 10-of-21 free throws," Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Eli Gurash said. "We worked hard defensively, and also worked hard getting some offensive looks with our bigs...but you have to hit shots in these type of games to be successful, and we simply missed too many makeable shots."
Westfall led B-U with 21 points and six rebounds, while Bub Short added 12 points and six rebounds. Daniel Powell contributed seven points.
Green and Summerfield's solid stat lines for the Colts were complemented by Quentin Mouser's game high nine rebounds.
The Colts raise their record to 4-7 with the win. Coach Johnson's squad returns to action Friday night at Bridgeport.
Buckhannon-Upshur falls to 2-7 and will host the rival Elkins Friday night.
