Yellow Jackets sting Bulldogs; Tucker wins

MOOREFIELD?- DaShawn Brown poured in career-high 22 points to lead Class A, No. 6 Moorefield to a 70-49 win over Tygarts Valley Wednesday night in Potomac Valley Conference action.

"It was nice to see DaShawn have such a good game," Moorefield coach Pat MacGregor said. "He really came out and played well."

Adam Snyder added 14 points for the Yellow Jackets (9-1), who led 20-15 after one quarter of play.

Moorefield outscored the visitors 19-9 in the second stanza to take a 39-24 lead into the half.

"We were a little slow at the start, but we rebounded with a big second quarter," MacGregor said. "We did a much better job on the defensive end in the second quarter and it allowed us to build a good lead at halftime."

Garrett Keller also reached double figures for Moorefield with 11 points.

"They came out and were more quicker and aggressive than us," Tygarts Valley coach Tom Wamsley said. "We just didn't respond well to what they were doing."

Brett Griffith led the Bulldogs, playing their third road game in five days, with 12 points. Brandon Pritt followed with 10 points.

"I think us being a little tired and having our starting point guard (J.D. Brown) home sick hurt us a little," Wamsley said.

Tygarts Valley will entertain Cameron in opening round action of the Hometown Invitational Tournament on Friday.

Moorefield entertains Tucker County the same night.

Pocahontas County 58

DUNMORE?- Mikhail Lewis tossed in a game-high 25 points to lead Tucker County to a 70-58 win over Pocahontas County Wednesday night in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Tyler Snyder and Ian Nichols added 17 points each for the Mountain Lions (6-3), who led 33-26 at the half and 49-40 after three quarters.

Jed Sheets poured in 25 points to lead the Warriors (5-5). Skylar Knisely followed with nine points and Dillon Kelly scored eight.

Pocahontas County will entertain Greenbrier West Friday.

The Mountain Lions will travel to Moorefield the same night.

Middle School



TVMS SWEEPS: Tygarts Valley swept a pair of games from Philippi Wednesday night in middle school action at Tygarts Valley High School.

Audrie Fox scored 13 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 32-25 win in the varsity contest.

Caitlyn Murphy added 11 points for Tygarts Valley (3-5).

Chelsea Mayle scored 12 points in a losing effort for Philippi.

Aaleah Pritt scored six points and Korie Kane had four to lead Tygarts Valley to a 14-9 victory in the junior varsity game.

Adriana Christopher had four points for Philippi.

EMS?SPLITS:?Elkins split a pair of games with Belington Wednesday night in middle school action at EMS.

Logan Dudley scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Elkins to a 36-26 win in the varsity contest.

MaKenzie Jackson and Makayla Davis added six points each for the Lady Hornets (5-9).

Cori Carpenter led Belington with 14 points.

Belington won the junior varsity game 30-15 behind 10 points each from Casey Neville and Kristin Whalen.

Sierra Poling led Elkins with 12 points.

The Lady Hornets will entertain Green Bank on Wednesday.


BULLDOGS?SWEEP: Tygarts Valley swept a pair of games from Philippi Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs won the junior varsity contest 46-45 in overtime and completed the sweep with a 39-33 overtime win in the varsity game.

Ben Sycafoose scored 12 points to lead the Bulldogs in the varsity matchup.

P.J. Lanham added 10 points and Jace Kyle scored eight for Tygarts Valley.

Clay Stewart led Philippi with 22 points.

Jace Stanley scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs in the junior varsity win.

Caleb Riggleman and Zack McCauley added 10 points each for Tygarts Valley.

Ashtin Upton scored 25 points for Philippi.

Tygarts Valley will entertain Green Bank today.

HORNETS?SPLIT: The Elkins Middle School boys basketball teams split a pair of games with Belington on Wednesday.

Robbie Toms scored 16 points to lead Belington to a 40-35 win in the varsity contest.

Dale Jackson led the Hornets (4-7) with 11 points. Jared Kerns followed with seven.

Elkins won the junior varsity game 50-44 behind 19 points from Kyle Riggleman.

Dalton Hamrick added 12 points for Elkins (7-4).

David Shriver scored 20 points and Spencer Hawkins had 13 for Belington.

Elkins will entertain Robert L. Bland on Friday.
