In other news, the Tucker County spelling bee was held recently in the Tucker County High School auditorium.
Thirty-six students from both Davis-Thomas and Tucker Valley participated. First place went to David Kines, a sixth-grader at Davis-Thomas, with the winning word "carbohydrates."
"I thought it was really fun and challenging. It was also a bit scary. I got nervous when I was at third place, and I didn't know if the other competitors would get a word that was easier than mine. It was really pressuring," Kines said.
