The Barbour County Board of Education approved personnel recommendations made by Dr. Joe Super, the superintendent of Barbour County schools, during this week's board meeting at Kasson Elementary/Middle School.
The board approved the retirement of Nancy Shaffer, a second-grade teacher at Belington Elementary School, effective June 30.
"She is an excellent teacher," board President David Strait said Monday. "We're starting to lose a lot of great ones to retirement."
The board also voted to employ the following personnel for the rest of this school year: Amanda Maxwell, Math Field Day coach at Kasson Elementary School; and Jason Stutler, multicategorical homebound instructor.
The board approved employment of the following substitute personnel for the rest of this school year: teachers Noah Shaffer, Kayla Lemley, Christiana Mayle and Shannon Goshert; custodian Daniel Mouser; and bus operators Clark Freeman and Robert Lantz.
Board members also approved the employment of the following personnel for the 2012/2013 school year: Miranda Zickefoose, instructor at Philippi Elementary School; Sara Jean Lefler, instructor at Philippi Elementary School; and Gina Wolfe, instructor at Belington Elementary School.
