Tigers fall short at Preston, 65-64

KINGWOOD - The Elkins High School Boys Basketball team lost to Preston 65-64 Saturday in non-conference action.

Logan Phillips had 20 points to lead the Tigers (4-11).

Cam Viney added eight points and 16 rebounds for Elkins.

"I was very happy with our team's performance against Preston," Elkins head coach Roy Simms said. "The kids played well for 26 minutes of the game and just came up a little short late in the game. Foul shots hurt us again down the stretch as we went 9 for 19 from the line."

Elkins will host East Fairmont on Wednesday for a Big 10 Conference matchup.

TV 85, Highland 29

MILL CREEK - Brett Griffith had 12 points to lead Tygarts Valley past Highland County (Va.) 85-29 Saturday in non-conference action.

Brandon Pritt and Jesse McGee had 11 points each for the Bulldogs (12-4), who led 35-7 at halftime and 66-18 after three quarters.

"It's always nice to get everyone into the scorebook and let them play and have fun," Tygarts Valley coach Tom Wamsley said. "The kids did a good job of keeping their focus, despite the score and not getting sloppy with their play on offense or defense."

Tygarts Valley will travel to Pocahontas County on Tuesday for a PVC matchup.

Pocahontas County 71

East Hardy ............ 64

DUNMORE - Dillon Kelly had 26 points to lead Pocahontas County past East Hardy 71-64 Saturday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Jesse Taylor followed with 16 points, while Jed Sheets followed with 13 points for the Warriors (6-9), who led 28-26 at halftime.

Tyler Mongold had 20 points and Josh Parker added 16 points for the Cougars (11-5).

East Hardy will host Hampshire at 7:30 p.m. today for a non-conference matchup.

Pocahontas County will host Tygarts Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.


Tygarts Valley 66

Highland ........ 20

MILL CREEK -Chelsea Rush had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead Tygarts Valley past Highland County (Va.) 66-20 Saturday in non-conference action.

Shanda Howell followed with 12 points, while Charity Lower and Kelsey Armstrong had 10 points eight each for the Lady Bulldogs (13-6), who led 34-12 at halftime and 57-12 after three quarters.

Tabathia Hiner had eight points for Highland County.

Tygarts Valley will host Petersburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Pocahontas County 90

Buffalo .................... 53

BUFFALO - Miranda McNabb had a career-high 31 points to lead Pocahontas County past Buffalo 90-53 Saturday in non-conference action.

McNabb added eight rebounds and five blocked shots for the Lady Warriors (17-4), who led 46-20 at halftime and 64-36 after three quarters.

Chloe Bland followed with 19 points and 11 rebounds, Heather Snead 13 points and Olivia Workman 10 points and four steals.

Paige Roush had 14 points to lead Buffalo.

Pocahontas County will play Tucker County at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for the PVC Championship at Elkins High School.
