BUCKHANNON - The Buckhannon-Upshur High School girls swim team captured the Splash Invitational on Saturday.
B-U finished with 111 points, followed by Elkins 85, Fairmont Senior 83, Notre Dame 65, Wheeling Park 64, Bridgeport 43, Weir 41, Liberty 14 and Philip Barbour.
First-place winners for B-U included Maggie Miller 50-yard freestyle and Courtney Miller 100 backstroke.
The Lady Bucs also won the 200 medley relay event. The team includes Courtney Miller, Michaela Mills, Patricia Lougney and Maggie Miller.
First-place finishers for Elkins were Delaney Johnson 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay team that included Samantha Hall, Kayla Gainer, Christa Varner and Johnson.
Bridgeport won the boys meet with 129 points, followed by Elkins 87, Fairmont Senior 73, Wheeling Park 65, Buckhannon-Upshur 57, Philip Barbour 45, Notre Dame 38 and Hampshire 16.
Elkins' Connor Gill won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Elkins also placed first in the 200 freestyle relay. Connor Gill, James White, Jonathan Gainer and Robert Hall made up the team.
High school wrestling
Big 10 championship held
CLARKSBURG - Buckhannon-Upshur had six wrestlers place, including two champions, at the annual Big 10 Conference wrestling meet held Saturday at Robert C. Byrd High School.
Philip Barbour and Elkins had three wrestlers place.
For the Colts, Dillon Nuzum placed second in the 152-pound division. He was complemented by Levi Ramsey, who was fourth at 145, and Ian Nuzum, who checked in at fifth at 106.
Elkins produced two fifth- places individually and one sixth. Matt Lindsay (182) and Isaac Riggleman (195) each pulled fifth spots, while Caleb Riggleman (220) placed sixth.
North Marion won the title with 225 points, while Fairmont Senior finished in the runner-up spot at 186.
Locally, Lewis County placed fourth overall with 119 and B-U fifth at 108. Philip Barbour closed the tournament at 10th with 45 points and Elkins 12th with 24.
Dakota Linger at 120 and Seth Cutright at 145 earned titles for B-U. Tyler DeMastes pulled off an impressive semi-final win en route to a runner-up finish at 113. Isiah Moore placed third at 152, Matt Fair fifth at 132 and Ethan Hull adding a sixth-place performance at 106.
