Relay For Life of Tucker County and Canaan Valley Resort are finalizing plans for the inaugural "Hope On The Slopes," a ski and snowboarding event to raise funds on behalf of the American Cancer Society. The event is in conjunction with Canaan Valley Resort's annual "Wild Thing" weekend and will take place March 2-3.
The weekend kicks off with a buffet in the Hickory Room at the Main Lodge from 5 - 9 p.m. There will be a family friendly cakewalk and oldies dance beginning at 6 p.m. on March 2 in the Spruce/Balsam rooms and an adults only DJ for entertainment from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. in the Laurel Lounge.
On March 3, "Hope On The Slopes" will begin registering participants who have not previously registered on-line at 8:30 a.m. The fee includes an all-day lift ticket, a two-hour tubing session or a two-hour ice skating session. Participants can compete for prizes as individuals or teams in both fundraising and the vertical challenge.
Several relay teams will set up booths in Bear Paw Lodge and sell s'mores, pizzas, funnel fries, popcorn, cake pops, cotton candy and much more. They also will sell Luminaria so that patrons can honor or remember their loved ones who have had cancer. A luminaria ceremony will take place as part of the closing ceremonies at 6 p.m.
This is the first and only event of its kind in West Virginia.
The "Wild Thing" weekend will feature many activities including lollipop races, airboard demos, saucer races, frozen T-shirt contest, Parade of Costumes, hot wings eating contest and the infamous Pond Jump. More details are available on the websites.
