Alderson-Broaddus College is proud to announce that sophomore Rachael McKinney, an English major and journalism minor from Rainelle, has been awarded a 2012 Appalachian College Association Col. Lee B. Ledford Award for Student Research.

She will use the award to study women and their use of technology in newsrooms of the Ogden Newspapers Inc. The Ogden company owns more than 100 newspapers in the Appalachian region, Florida, Hawaii and other states.

McKinney will do the bulk of her work in the summer, but will do some field work at some local newspapers in the spring. She also will do survey research of all of the Ogden Group newspapers. The ACA minigrant will fund travel, equipment, supplies and an hourly stipend.
