One of the annual community projects of the Weston Rotary Club is the blood screening analysis at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Dates for this year's program are 7 to 10 a.m. April 14 and 21.
With the blood analysis program, Rotary provides people with the opportunity to assist the individual's physician in providing preventative health care. Small samples of blood are taken and analyzed by a lab. About 35 tests are performed on the sample. Some of the tests conducted include BUN, Cholesterol, Hemoglobin, Glucose and more.
For those choosing to have the regular health fair panel the cost is $33. Other prices this year will be $23 for the PSA (indicates the possibility of prostate cancer for men) and $10 for the TSH. One of the newest screenings will be a test for Hemoglobin A1C (measures cumulative glucose values for diabetics) for a cost of $13.
Participants should fast for 12 hours before the test. There is no preregistration and results will be sent to the individual, who can then provide their information to his/her doctor. Stonewall Jackson Hospital will have a mini-health fair in conjunction with the screening.
As always, the hospital will provide a health fair for blood screening participants. This year there will be blood pressure and a bone density screening available.
