Enriching the imagination

February 24, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

A famous quote from Albert Einstein reads: "Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited." Although the statement was made many, many years ago, the essence of its message continues to grow in importance.

Long gone are the days when students schooled in "the three Rs" came away with a complete education. Even our brightest students of today who concentrate in a select field may not have all it takes to rise to success if they lack creativity.

We have to ask, where would we be in the world of technology if engineers and developers had not unleashed their imaginations?

That's why arts education in the school system, particularly at the elementary level, is essential.

This Saturday, the Randolph County ArtsBank will host its annual auction to raise funds to enrich the arts experiences of elementary students. The works of local artists will be up for bid. The event also includes a dessert buffet and musical entertainment.

Randolph County is fortunate to have such a caring group that has continued its efforts since 1995. Support of the program is support for our future. The ArtsBank Auction begins at 7 p.m. at Gandy Dancer in Elkins. Tickets are available at the door.
