The Arden Area Community Building is once again sponsoring a "Meet Your Candidate Night" from 6 to 9 p.m. March 30.
Organizers had such a great turn out last two elections they thought it was important to do it again. The public is invited to come and speak to local, state and federal candidates from both parties. It will be a social gathering and an open forum for the candidates if they wish to speak to those attending.
Postcard invitations were mailed to the candidates on a county level as follows: for County Commission: Dana Booth, Phil Hart, Shirley Whitesell, Ken Auvil, David Everson and Eddie Canterbury; for Board of Education: Judy Mae Gain, Dana Stemple, Rex Freeman, Eric Ruf, Stanley Swick and Thomas Mouser; for prosecuting attorney: Leckta Poling; for magistrate: Tina Mouser and Kathi McBee; for assessor: John Cutright; for sheriff: John Hawkins and Carlton "Jody" Haller; and for conservation supervisor: Sam Wright.
On the state level, the invited candidates are as follows: for State Senate: Bob Williams; for House of Delegates: Mary Poling and John R. Rose Sr.; for commissioner of agriculture: Joe Messineo, Steve Miller, Bob Tabb, Walt Helmick and Mike Teets; for attorney general: Darrell McGraw Jr. and Patrick Morrisey; for state treasurer: Stephen R. Connolly, Mike Hall and John Perdue; for secretary of state: Natalie Tennant and Brian Savilla; and for governor: Earl Ray Tomblin, Arnie Moltis, Bill Maloney and Ralph W. Clark.
On the federal level, the invited candidates are as follows: for U.S. Congress: David B. McKinley and Sue Thorn; for U.S. Senate: Joe Manchin III, Sheirl Fletcher and John R. Raese; for U.S. president: Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Barack Obama, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul. .
Organizers said they tried to include all the candidates who have filed to run for office, but if a candidate don't see his or her name, they still are welcome to attend the gathering. The candidates can RSVP to Barbara at 304-457-3824.
The Arden Area Community Building is located on Arden Road near the Arden Blue Bridge, 8 miles from the covered bridge in Philippi.
