Tucker County senior events coming soon

March 12, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

The Tucker County Sheriff's Department is sponsoring the Senior Academy, which begins Wednesday. To register, anyone interested can call the Tucker County Sheriff's Department at 304-478-2321.

The Senior Academy will be held at the Parsons Senior Center and van transportation will be provided for participants from the mountain.

The Parsons Senior Center will hold its St. Patrick's Day celebration Thursday. The Goldenairs choir will begin singing at 10:30 a.m. and the St. Patrick's festivities will follow. All attendees are encouraged to wear green.

The Mt. Top Senior Center will celebrate St. Patrick's Day in conjunction with it monthly outpost program March 20. The program will begin at 11 a.m. and those attending should bring a covered dish.

Those celebrating March birthdays are invited to a celebration at the Mt. Top Center on Tuesday. Participants will be given special recognition and share a cake provided by Mountain Hospice.

Two openings for the Ohio Amish County trip may be available. Anyone interested should contact Sam at the center for additional information.

Anyone who needs help in quitting tobacco products is welcome to attend tobacco-prevention discussions. The Mt. Top event will be March 27 during lunch, and the Parsons Center event will be March 29 during lunch.

The 2012 Senior Olympics will be held in Keyser in June. Teams are being formed for a banner contest and a talent show. For those planning to participate in the more physical phases, it's time to get into shape and begin practice.

Those who'd like to participate should contact the center so plans can be made.

If you do not have prescription insurance coverage and cannot afford prescription drugs, help in obtaining low or no-cost medications may be available.

For information about the program, call Ann Filler at 304-478-2423.

The first payment for the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam trip are due Thursday. If this is not a convenient time, contact the center to make other arrangements.

A list is being compiled of those interested in a trip to the Lancaster area.

The trip also will include a visit to the Sights and Sounds Theater to see "Jonah." Call the center to sign up if interested in this excursion.

A four-day, three-night trip is being planned to the Biltmore in Ashville, N.C., and Dollywood in early December. Those signed up on the interest list will have first choice.
