SHEPHERDSTOWN?- West Virginia Wesleyan dropped a tough doubleheader at Shepherd University Tuesday afternoon in West Virginia Conference action.
The Bobcats dropped the first contest 5-2 and suffered a 16-14 loss in nightcap.
In game one, Wesleyan received a strong pitching effort from Aaron Adams who went the distance, allowing only three earned runs.
Adams struck out four while walking only two batters. Both of the Bobcat runs came via the long ball, as Corey Flickinger and Mark Darlington each drilled home runs in a losing effort.
Wesleyan pounded out 14 hits in game two and accumulated a 12-6 lead by the middle of the third inning. But the Rams rallied to win late.
Third baseman Gene Franks led the offense going 3-for-4 with two doubles. Second baseman Matt Edwards collected three hits and three RBIs while Flickinger added two more hits and three RBIs.
"They were both tough losses, especially the second game to lose a six-run lead," Wesleyan head coach Randy Tenney said.
The Bobcats will return to action on Saturday when they entertain Concord for a doubleheader.
Game 1 is scheduled to get under way at 1 p.m.
