Elkins High School will return a veteran group of players this season. Tigers returning include, from left, Houston Schuler, James Gainer, Riley Lloyd, Caten Murphy, Cody Gainer and Lukas Letan.

"We need Cody in the middle of the lineup somewhere," Roth said. "He will be one of our top pitchers this season as well."

Other returning seniors include Riley Lloyd and Caten Murphy, who will be battling for time at first base.

"These two will have a chance to battle it out in practice and see who will win the spot," Roth said. "Both will have a chance to play at that spot."

Senior Brennan Dettinger returns as a pitcher and an outfielder, while Houston Schuler could see time in the middle infield and pitcher.

Roth also said they could see time behind the plate as well at some point this year for Elkins.

Senior James Gainer who also returns as a top pitcher, along with Lukas Letan also returns as a pitcher and a middle infielder for this year.

"We need these kids to step up and lead our team this year," Roth said. "We're going to need them to really have big years for us this season."

Junior Clayton Collett is also projected to be one of the outfielders this year for head coach Roth.

"We're going to need Clayton's speed in the outfield and on the bases," Roth said. "We have to get him on base this year, so were going to be counting on him big."

Another junior who could see time this year will be Jake Wyatt who is in line for catching duties.

"We've got a lot of juniors and sophomores who could see a lot of time this year with the loss of seven seniors," Roth said. "There are a lot of positions that will be open so it could be a fun preseason."

The seven seniors that Elkins lost due to graduation last year were Scott Fox, Heath Broughton, Lance VanNoy, Mike Lewis, Mike Elza, Ryne Bonnell and Nick Jones.

"A lot of these kids have moved on to play college baseball so they will be hard to replace," Roth said. "We've got a good group of kids this year so hopefully we can have a good year."

Elkins opens up their season on March 23. at home against Lincoln.
