The Elkins High School softball team will begin the season with a new head coach and an experienced group of girls.
Corinne Palmer, who is in her first year as a head coach, replaces Russ Collett, who stepped down after last season.
"I'm looking forward to getting things started," Palmer said. "I think we have a good group back, which is nice."

The Lady Tigers return senior shortstop Jaime Miller, who was the team's top hitter last season and was named to the Big 10 All-Conference team.
Also returning is senior catcher Haylee Miller, who missed part of last season with an injury.
When healthy, Miller is one the top hitters in the lineup.
"These two will be counted on big for our hitting," Palmer said. "There are two seniors who return with experience, so we're expecting big things from them this year."
Returning juniors are Kelsi Trippett, Lindsay Silvester, Larel Teter and Michaela Lewis-Lambert.
Trippett, Silvester and Teter all saw time in the outfield last year, while Lewis-Lambert returns as one of the team's top pitchers.
Sophomore Madison Collett, saw time at third base last year, is returning to the team this year.
"I think it's nice that we return such great experience in the infield and outfield," Palmer said. "Lewis-Lambert is one of the top pitchers returning from last year. I'm hoping that she can have a good year on the mound and we do have some younger kids who could see time on the mound as well."
Elkins will travel to Liberty (Harrison) on March 20 to start off the season.
