The SonShine Puppet Ministry, which meets at 5:30 p.m. Mondays at Otterbein United Methodist Church, is recruiting new members.

The group began more than 15 years ago when Sandy and Jennifer Bennett began with a sheet of plywood, two puppets and a cassette player.

After a year, the group grew to about 30 people with 25 large puppets, a professional sound system, tripod lighting, a large stage, costumes and props.

SonShine Puppet Ministry is searching for youth volunteers. The group meets at 5:30 p.m. Mondays at Otterbein United Methodist Church.

For several years, the team traveled all over West Virginia and Maryland, performing for churches, parks and community centers.

As the years went by, the teenage puppeteers graduated from school, went to college, married or just moved away from the area, causing the SonShine Puppet Ministry to disband.

Last summer, the group came together to perform a reunion show at Otterbein United Methodist Church to a filled-to-capacity audience.

The group is now reorganizing and looking for volunteers - from middle school students and older - to help by becoming puppeteers, joining the lighting or sound crews, helping with costuming or publicity and many other areas.

More information about volunteering is available by calling 304-636-9428.
