Area well represented in Class A

The area was well represented on the Class A?All-State boys basketball team released on Monday by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.

Tucker County's Tyler Snyder, Moorefield's Adam Snyder and Pocahontas County's Dillon Kelly headline the list of area players selected to the team.

Tyler Snyder, a junior guard, captured second-team honors after averaging 12.3 points per game this year for the Mountain Lions, who finished with a 20-6 record and advanced to the Class A state tournament eighth-straight season.

"It's a great honor to have someone on the second team," Tucker County coach Tom Gutshall said. "Tyler worked hard this year and he led our team down the stretch and into the playoffs."

Moorefield's Snyder, a junior guard, was also named to the second team. Snyder led the Yellow Jackets in scoring at 16.4 points per game this season. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

"Adam was our top scorer this year and had a great season," Moorefield coach Pat MacGregor said. "This was his first year of full varsity action and he really played well."

Kelly was named to the third team after averaging 18.1 points per game for the Warriors during his senior campaign.

"Dillon really stepped up big for us this year," Pocahontas County Bob Sheets said. "He worked hard in the off season and it paid off for him."

Tucker County's Nathaniel Goldstein and Ian Nichols were also named to the All-State list as honorable mention selections.

Pocahontas County's Jed Sheets, East Hardy's Jaime Miller and Tyler Mongold, Tygarts Valley's Brandon Pritt, Pendleton County's Corey Simmons and Harman's Alex Armentrout all were named were also honorable mention selections.

Jordan Simpson (Man), Clay Rokisky (Madonna), Derek Renner (St. Marys), Cody Triplett (Trinity), Josh Pierson (Huntington St. Joe), Jordan Burdette (Midland Trail), Casey Kessler (Midland Trail) and Daniel Collie (Parkersburg Catholic) round out the first team. Simpson was named captain of the first unit.

Issac Lee (Wahama), K.D. Arnett (St. Marys), Nick George (Charleston Catholic), Chris Gray (Meadow Bridge), Levi Jordan (Buffalo) and Anthony Ghiardi (Trinity) round out the second team. Arnett was named captain of second team.

D.T. Meeker (Bishop Donahue), Nick Battista (Madonna), Michael Badgley (Williamstown), Haston Gerencir (Charleston Catholic), Jonathan Stokes (WVSD), Seth Hainer (Man) and Zach Chisler (Clay-Battelle) round out the third team.

Battista was named captain of third team.
