This weekend a group of eight Davis & Elkins College students crossed the finish line in preparing for the unknown.
Through a series of courses, the students learned CPR, basic first aid and general disaster preparedness. In the event they are needed, any member of the group can put the newly acquired skills into practice on campus or anywhere in the community.
Keeping a keen knowledge of the latest in technology and specific fields is always important. Being ready to assist in the event of an emergency when minutes can mean the difference between life and death is paramount.
Disasters are sometimes one of those tricky things that catch us off guard. We may receive a warning for some, but not others. The severity can reach more of an extreme than anticipated.
Having these volunteers trained, accessible and willing to lend assistance is a tremendous asset to our community.
These students are to be commended for their efforts.
