West Virginia Strawberry Festival organizers are seeking musicians, storytellers, mimes, instrumentalists and singers. Acts can be individual, duos, trios, in groups or bands. Music of all styles and varieties is encouraged.
Performances may take on virtually any form of acceptable family entertainment. They will take part in an afternoon of street entertainment on May 12, where performers will share their individual or group talents with those attending activities along Main Street in Buckhannon.
With anticipation of a parade at 5 p.m. that day featuring horse-drawn wagons and buggies, the atmosphere on Main Street should resemble Bourbon Street of New Orleans where one may encounter musicians and performers playing in the street. Open instrument cases are typically close to those performing, so passers-by can show their appreciation by depositing money in the entertainers' cases. Thus, Open Case Performances will be happening from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both sides of Main Street.
Anyone who would like to take part is asked to call the Strawberry Festival Office at 304-472-9036. The deadline for entry is April 27. When calling, potential performers should provide their name, phone number, address and instrument or the nature of your performance.
There will be two time slots, with one beginning at 11 a.m. and the other at 2 p.m.
There are a limited number of performance stations and time slots, so sign-ups will be determined on a first-come, first-served and qualifying basis. Only those recognized by the official Strawberry Festival Committee will be afforded the opportunity to participate on Main Street and the Open Case Performances.
