Buckhannon-Upshur’s Morgan Wright steals home in front of Elkins High School catcher Haylee Miller Thursday in the Lady Buccaneers’ 7-1 win in Tennerton.

"Megan struggled with control in the first two innings, but settled down and got stronger as the game went along," Buckhannon-Upshur coach Tom Hasbrouck said. "She retired 20 of the last 21 batters she faced."

Brooklyn Waddell and Kesley Wagoner paced Buckhannon-Upshur at the dish with two hits each. Waddell scored three runs and Wagoner collected an RBI.

Morgan Wright knocked in a pair of runs for the Lady Bucs, while Carly Gregory tallied a run-producing double.

"This was a big win for us within our section," Hasbrouck said. "We need to continue to get timely hits and create runs off of the opponent's miscues."

Michaela Lewis Lambert took the loss for Elkins (2-6) in six innings pitched. She allowed eight hits, struck out four and walked four.

Kelsi Trippett and Jaime Miller had the lone hits for the Lady Tigers.

"We just didn't hit the ball and Buckhannon-Upshur did," Elkins coach Corinne Palmer said. "We were able to put the ball in play, but we just couldn't find any holes."

Elkins will entertain East Hardy for a noon doubleheader today.

B-U will play a pair of games at Logan on Saturday.
