Michael Elmer Mauzy, 58, a resident of Parsons, and for the last year-and-a- half, he resided with his sister and caretaker, Lisa Wilfong of Parsons, departed this life early Thursday morning, April 12, 2012, in Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center at Elkins. He fought a long 6 1/2-year battle with cancer.
He was born Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1954, at Parsons, a son of Paul Stanley Mauzy Sr. of Parsons, and the late Ruth Mullenax Mauzy, who preceded him in death May 5, 1987.
Surviving are one brother, Paul Stanley Mauzy Jr. of Parsons; one sister, Lisa Ann Mauzy Wilfong and husband, David, of Parsons; a very supportive cousin, Glenn Mullenax of Morgantown; two uncles, Rich and John Mauzy; three aunts, Mary Mauzy, Delain and Jean Mullenax; one niece and four nephews, Melissa Sexton and husband, Jeremy, J.D. Armstrong and wife, Jen, Brad Stevens, Dustin Mauzy and Tyler Mauzy; four great-nephews, Anthony Gwynn, Jacob Gwynn, Braden Armstrong and Rylan Sexton; several cousins; and very special friends, Craig and Robyn Nestor of Parsons.

MAUZY
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Michael and Hattie Mauzy; maternal grandparents, Elmer Jackson and Sylvia Mullenax; two aunts, Virginia and Erma Mauzy; and three uncles, Foster, Delton and Frank Mullenax.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1972 of which he was a noted football player and basketball player. He attended Potomac State College and West Virginia University. He was an employee of the Randolph County Board of Education, teaching drivers education. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Parsons. He was an avid sports fan, especially the WVU football and basketball teams and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike had a compassion and love for abused and homeless animals.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Monday, April 16, at 1 p.m. Pastor Allen Dale Crosten and the Rev. Jeff Anderson will officiate and interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.
