A 45-year old Weston resident entered a guilty plea April 20 in U.S. District Court in Clarksburg before Magistrate Judge John S. Kaull.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that Larry Allen Thompson entered a guilty plea to one count of possession of child pornography on Dec. 2, 2010, in Weston. Thompson, who is on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. attorney David J. Perri and was investigated by the West Virginia State Police Crimes Against Children Unit.

This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
