Join in welcoming spring by attending the 20th annual Spring Mountain Festival held in and around Petersburg today through Sunday.
Hosted by the Grant County Chamber of Commerce, the celebration will feature music, food, crafts, a 10K Run, antique car, truck and tractor show, motorcycle show, banjo and fiddle contest, a parade and a variety of other entertaining activities.
Kids of all ages will enjoy one of the most unique activities of the weekend, the April Fools Race. This water race competition, held on the South Branch of the Potomac River, involves participants riding "anything that floats and is not a boat".
Festival vendors will also help everyone get into the spirit of spring with a great variety of seasonal arts and crafts, including locally grown plants and flowers for the home and garden. Performing during the weekend will be many talented local and regional musicians as well. Admission to the festival grounds and concerts is free of charge.
For Civil War Buffs, the South Side Depot, an area business and tourist Information Center, will be offering Civil War Train Rides on Saturday, featuring Civil War skits and stories about the local area along with encampments and a shoot-out from the train.
