Tucker girls, Pocahontas County boys capture meet

Tucker County High?School girls track team captured an eight-team meet Thursday at Elkins High?School.

The Lady Mountain Lions won the girls meet with a score of 230.40, followed by Petersburg 64.40, Pendleton?County 59, Elkins 54.80, Union 35, Pocahontas County 31, East Hardy 27.40 and Tygarts Valley 6.

Tucker County was led by Ashley Cassidy with two first-place finishes as she won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:52.09 and captured the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:39.18. Other first-place winners were Adrianna Bowley (800, 2:48.88), Jessica Kincaid (200, 28:16), Katie Clevenger (100 meter hurdles, 17.30), Amber Evans (300 meter hurdles, 51.03), Olivia Miller (high jump, 4-10) and Alyana Kachmarek (discus throw, (86.09).

Tucker also won the following relays - the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 4x800 and shuttle hurdles.

Petersburg's top finisher was Estella Lambert, who placed first in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:07.82.

Pendleton County's top finisher was Fanta Kaba, who placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.59.

Elkins was led by Kathlyne Simmons, who captured the long jump with a leap of 15-03.

Pocahontas County was led by Fredricah Gardner, who placed third in the discus throw with a toss of 76-07.

East Hardy was led by Shyana Constable, who placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.58.

Tygarts Valley was led by Hannah Currence, who placed sixth in high jump with a leap of 13-09.

Pocahontas County won the boys meet with a score of 147, followed by Tucker County 137, Pendleton County 98, East Hardy 70, Elkins 50, Petersburg 13, Tygarts Valley 10 and Union followed with a four.

Pocahontas County's first-place winners were Kyler Doss (100-meter dash, 11.82) and Clayton Irvine (3,200-meter run, 11:21).

The Warriors also placed first in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

Tucker County was led by Chris Freeman, who placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.58 and Chris Bonner (1,600, 5:11.72).

Tucker also placed first in the following relays - the 4x800 and shuttle hurdles.

Pendleton?County was led by William Latta, who placed first in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.17.

The Cougars' George Maddox placed first in three events and they were the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.01, long jump with a leap of 20-06 and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.14.

East Hardy's Shawn Childers placed first in the shotput with a throw of 42-05 and in the discus with a throw of 116-02.

Elkins was led by Nate Simons, who placed first in the pole vault with a jump of 9-06 and Cam Viney, who won the high jump with a jump of 5-10.

Petersburg was led by Grant Shanholtz, who placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.23.

Elkins will travel to Charleston today for the Gazette Relays, which run through Saturday.
