Friendship Day coming up Friday

April 30, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Members of the Elkins Area Church Women United will celebrate their 2012 May Friendship Day Celebration on Friday at the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church on Randolph Avenue beginning at noon.

The celebration will begin with a luncheon. Participants are asked to bring sandwiches or salad to share. The Davis Memorial Presbyterian ladies will provide desserts and drinks.

The 2012 celebrations are built on the theme "The Sounds and Sights of Harmony." May Friendship Day, Listening to My Sisters, invites participants to listen to one another with open minds, open eyes, open ears and open hearts as they interact with each other on deeper levels.

Church Women United has a long history of inviting women of diverse races, cultures and traditions drawing together into a Christian fellowship. In this service, participants can share insights into their own heritage as they recognize how God brings people together from many places, generations, cultures and faiths to become "One in Christ's Love."

The celebration will include two offerings - one offering will be the Fellowship of the Least Coin that goes to the national CWU office and the other offering will be used by the local CWU unit.

The local Church Women United group is working with the state's CWU in collecting dental supplies for children who cannot afford toothbrushes, toothpastes and floss items. These items can be donated during the celebration.

There also will be a business meeting to discuss how to disburse the donations collected during Holy Week luncheons.

The Church Women United is an ecumenical organization that welcomes all women.
