Rotary to co-host screenings

May 2, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

The Rotary Club of Tucker County and Davis Memorial Hospital will combine efforts to give people comprehensive blood tests at a low cost.

Multiphasic Blood Screenings will be available from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Parsons Senior Center. The cost for a Comprehensive Blood Test is $30, for a $300 value.

"This is a great example of two community-minded organizations coming together to help the public," said Linda Smith, D.O. and Rotary president. "I know firsthand the value of this service and we encourage as many people as possible to come out and take advantage of this opportunity."

Other tests are available in addition to the comprehensive blood test at an additional cost. Those include TSH, Hemoglobin A1c, PSA, CA-125, CA-27.29 and C-Reactive Protien.

For optimal results, fasting for 12 hours prior to testing is recommended. Results will be mailed to patients' homes.

Employees of Davis Memorial Hospital will handle the blood draws and laboratory testing. Members of the Rotary Club will register participants and provide refreshments after the draws.

Walk-ins are welcome, but people also can call 304-637-3861 in advance for an appointment. Cash or personal checks are accepted.

"These blood tests are a good way for people to keep current on their health status," said Carla Johnston, Davis Memorial lab director. "Prevention and early detection are the best protection against many diseases and conditions."
