A man was arrested near the windmills at the top of Laurel Mountain in Barbour County early Thursday morning after illegally entering a private residence, police said.
Rickey A. Carpenter, 30, was charged with obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor, after being arrested by Sgt. B.A. Miller of the Barbour County Sheriff's Department.
According to the arrest report, police received a call from a home on Laurel Mtn. Road stating that "a man was inside a residence who did not have permission to be there."
While Miller was in route to the location he learned that the man got into a pickup truck with another man and rode back up to the top of Laurel Mtn. Road.
Miller located Carpenter around the windmills at the top of Laurel Mountain, according to a Sherrif's Department representative. Carpenter told Miller he "was working with a survey crew," according to the arrest report. When asked whether a black Ford car on a side road was his vehicle, Carpenter said no, the report states.
When Miller drove Carpenter to look for the rest of his crew, Carpenter "admitted to lying ... about working with a survey crew and also about the vehicle," according to the arrest report.
At the time of his arrest, Carpenter seemed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to a Sheriff's Department representative.
